In 2015, I found a commercial building that I fell in love with. I immediately had visions of this space becoming my creative studio, with space to create and maybe even a future retail store.
I’m beginning a new blog post series today where I will show you before and after pictures of how I have transformed this building to make it my own. I’m starting with the building exterior.
Here’s a shot of the exterior before I did anything to it. The beautiful tree that you see in the foreground was actually touching the building in multiple areas and created quite a shadow over the building.
My first order of business was to tame the tree. Since it is on the boulevard, the city came out and trimmed the tree for me.
Much better!
The building was a former stained glass studio so the lines you see in the windows are the lead outlines of beautiful colorful windows on the inside. These windows were a large part of why I fell in love at first sight!
The second order of business was to paint the front including the awesome pergola. There was some rotting boards in the pergola which I was hoping to replace however when they got up there, the ENTIRE pergola was rotten! Drat! So unfortunately the pergola had to come down.
After it was removed, it actually brightened up the whole front of the building. I didn’t realize how it was making the front look dark and drab!
This is the “after” shot. The window trim and doors were painted along with replacing the access door and fascia metal. There is also a new vent cover as there were pigeons living in the fan alcove. I guess that’s better than other creatures.
What do you think of the color? I am thinking I may want to paint the window trim gray and have a fun color for the front door. What do you think? Leave me a comment—what colors would work with the dark brick?
